About the program

Wellways Australia is the first point of contact for all Australian Government Carer Gateway funded services in South West Sydney and across Queensland, aiming to help carers access practical information and advice and connect with services in their local area. Carer supports and services will be delivered using a network of local Carer Gateway regional service providers Carers and those who provide a caring role to someone in their life who has a disability, mental health issue, chronic health condition, terminal illness or are frail aged.

About the role

A truly special role, which plays an integral part of the delivery of the Carer Gateway services program. The Carer Gateway In-person Peer Support program provides carers with an opportunity to share experiences and learn from each other in a peer group setting

Key responsibilities include, however are not limited to:

  • Facilitating the program in accordance with training and the In-person Peer Support Guidelines
  • Creating an environment Young Carers and Carers will find welcoming, real and inclusive
  • Ensuring relationships with Young Carers and Carers are built on Wellways values and are positive using your lived experience to enrich the support and learning experiences for carers.
  • Implementing and facilitating specific and targeted workshops to Young Carers (up to 25 years old) and Carers (+25 years old)

Skills & Experience

  • Lived experience as a Young carer or with Young Carers
  • Listening skills that enable active listening to carers' needs
  • Levels of awareness and empathy that allow effective work with groups that may challenge own ethical opinions and values understand the importance of ‘safe storytelling'
  • Confident in using online meeting platforms
  • Confident in using client data management systems and Microsoft Office programs
  • Confident in using client data management systems and Microsoft Office programs
